Covid-19 Policy

We take our responsibilities to the community seriously. In order to minimise the spread of COVID 19 we prefer video to face to face consultation. Please book a telehealth appointment (preferably video) online or by calling the clinic if you are unable to book online. If you are experiencing cold or flu like symptoms including fever you will not be able to enter Port GPs unless considered appropriate by your doctor after a telehealth appointment.

Confirmed Covid-19 by RAT or PCR

If you have severe Covid-19 symptoms (particularly severe headache or dizziness, shortness of breath, chest pressure or pain) call Triple Zero (000) straight away and tell the ambulance staff that you have been diagnosed with COVID-19.

If you have tested positive, seek advice from NSW Health Testing positive to COVID-19 – Fact sheets (nsw.gov.au) or Call the National Coronavirus Helpline on 1800 020 080. This service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Call the NSW Health COVID-19 Care at Home Support Line on 1800 960 933, particularly if you have a chronic condition including:

  • obesity
  • severe, chronic or complex medical conditions (including cardiac, respiratory, renal or neurodevelopmental)
  • diabetes
  • immunocompromised (weakened immune system), including if you are on chemotherapy, have had a transplant or are on other medications that affect your immune system.
  • severe mental illness.

If you have no risk factors and are well, there is unlikely to be benefit from talking to your GP. Please call the numbers listed above.

Our staff and doctors are stretched with the increased demand and the impact of isolating on the clinic. We appreciate your patience and understanding at this time.

Covid-19 Vaccination

Covid vaccinations are performed in a separate suite to Port GPs with access via the Upper car park and Port Health entrance, unless you require access parking. Covid vaccinations are available to book online.

Other medical problems do not wait for Covid, so it is very important that you have your regular appointments to keep your GP Management plan up to date. These can be done by video or face to face. Please book online or by telephone if you are unable to book online. We recommend downloading the hotdoc app to your mobile phone.

If you have difficulty breathing or experience other severe symptoms call an ambulance on 000. For other medical enquiries you can speak to a nurse at Health Direct on 1800 022 222.

We have been selected as a government approved vaccination provider. Port GPs is providing this service for the entire community whether or not you are a current patient. We provide several Covid vaccination clinics per week, to check availability, please book online.

Port GPs is blessed with doctors, nurses and administration staff who are all working additional to their normal hours to provide this community service. It is important to us that regular services are not affected. However the phones may be very busy. Please book online. As with all things Covid… please be patient and tolerant, this is a huge logistical effort and people are working very hard.
